00:00:04.629 --> 00:00:08.759
Coming up on Renewed Mindsets, our special New Year's Day episode.
00:00:08.759 --> 00:00:15.554
As we step into the new year, let's get ready to embrace new beginnings and the power of transformation.
00:00:15.554 --> 00:00:24.832
Let's kick off this year with fresh insights, god's eternal truths and a renewed commitment to align our hearts and minds with His perfect will.
00:00:24.832 --> 00:00:26.846
Let's go, boys.
00:00:26.846 --> 00:00:40.030
Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets, bringing you God's truth from a Gen X perspective, with a mix of humor and a dash of nostalgia.
00:00:40.030 --> 00:00:43.869
Remember when life was simpler and all we needed was a good mixtape?
00:00:43.869 --> 00:00:47.369
Well, we're here to make your spiritual playlist even better.
00:00:47.369 --> 00:00:53.753
Join us as we explore scripture, laugh a little and rediscover the power of a renewed mindset.
00:00:53.753 --> 00:00:56.448
Don't conform transform.
00:00:56.448 --> 00:01:01.527
Welcome back to Renewed Mindsets.
00:01:01.527 --> 00:01:05.691
I'm Rick and I'm so glad you're here as we step into a new year.
00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:11.531
New years is a time filled with hope, fresh starts and lots of resolutions.
00:01:11.531 --> 00:01:14.905
Some stick and, let's be honest, some don't.
00:01:14.905 --> 00:01:21.224
Today, we're going to talk about how we can approach the new year with a mindset rooted in God's truth.
00:01:21.224 --> 00:01:31.445
Now, before we jump in here, let me share a quick story about one of my more ambitious New Year's resolutions.
00:01:31.445 --> 00:01:36.734
A few years ago, I was inspired by my brother, mind you.
00:01:36.734 --> 00:01:41.465
I decided I was going to jog every day, rain or shine.
00:01:41.465 --> 00:01:51.487
On January 1st, I laced up my new Nikes, I went out for a really brisk jog and I thought man, this is great, I'm going to do this all year.
00:01:51.487 --> 00:01:57.730
By January 3rd, I was curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn watching TV.
00:01:57.730 --> 00:02:02.966
Clearly, my resolve wasn't enough to sustain me.
00:02:02.966 --> 00:02:06.394
That's the problem with resolutions, though, isn't it?
00:02:06.394 --> 00:02:18.524
They rely on our strength alone, but lasting change, real transformation, comes from God working in us, and that's what we're going to focus on today.
00:02:20.265 --> 00:02:23.149
Section 1, Renewing your Mind for the New Year.
00:02:24.950 --> 00:02:28.675
My absolute favorite verse in the Bible is Romans 12.2.
00:02:28.675 --> 00:02:42.950
It says Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
00:02:42.950 --> 00:02:45.707
Now you've heard this from me before.
00:02:45.707 --> 00:02:49.610
This verse is foundational to renewed mindsets.
00:02:49.610 --> 00:02:59.950
It reminds us that our transformation begins in our minds and our hearts, not with external resolutions or with willpower.
00:02:59.950 --> 00:03:02.878
So how do we renew our minds?
00:03:02.878 --> 00:03:06.670
It starts with immersing ourselves in God's Word.
00:03:06.670 --> 00:03:13.730
Daily Bible reading or even committing to memorizing one verse each week can make a huge difference.
00:03:13.730 --> 00:03:18.709
Think about it Just one verse a week means 52 verses.
00:03:18.709 --> 00:03:25.853
At the end of the year, those words become a part of who you are, shaping your thoughts and your actions.
00:03:27.180 --> 00:03:32.772
Now, right now, today, I'm struggling with anxiety about the future.
00:03:32.772 --> 00:03:38.051
I've decided to focus on Philippians, chapter 4, verses 6 and 7.
00:03:38.051 --> 00:03:47.282
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.
00:03:47.282 --> 00:03:55.140
Now, I've done it before and I'll meditate on that verse daily, along with praising him.
00:03:55.140 --> 00:04:03.181
Through the pain, and slowly but surely, god is replacing my anxiety and hurt with his peace.
00:04:04.264 --> 00:04:09.707
Now here's where I got to the point where Philippians 4, 6, and 7 stuck with me all the time.
00:04:09.707 --> 00:04:26.449
I would write that scripture on sticky notes and put them everywhere, put them on the bathroom mirror in my car, on the dashboard, on my desk at work, and over time that verse became my anchor.
00:04:26.449 --> 00:04:29.747
God replaced my worry with his peace.
00:04:29.747 --> 00:04:38.572
So here's a challenge for you this week pick one verse that speaks to you and write it down.
00:04:38.572 --> 00:04:42.449
Share it with a friend or post it where you'll see it daily.
00:04:42.449 --> 00:04:45.569
Let that verse guide your thoughts.
00:04:45.569 --> 00:04:50.185
That's the power of renewing your mind.
00:04:50.185 --> 00:04:56.185
When we let God's truth take root, it transforms how we see the world.
00:04:57.468 --> 00:04:58.269
Section 2.
00:04:58.269 --> 00:05:00.072
The God of New Beginnings.
00:05:01.923 --> 00:05:03.927
Do you know what I love about our God?
00:05:03.927 --> 00:05:06.834
He's the God of new beginnings.
00:05:06.834 --> 00:05:11.369
The Bible is full of stories that remind us about this truth.
00:05:11.369 --> 00:05:16.927
Think about Noah After the flood, God gave humanity a fresh start.
00:05:16.927 --> 00:05:22.872
Or Ruth she went from being a grieving widow to part of the lineage of Christ.
00:05:22.872 --> 00:05:28.624
And then there's Paul, who went from persecuting Christians to being one of the greatest apostles.
00:05:28.624 --> 00:05:37.105
These stories show us that no matter where we are in life, God can give us a fresh start.
00:05:38.127 --> 00:05:39.990
Now, maybe this past year was hard for you.
00:05:39.990 --> 00:05:42.903
Maybe you feel like you've failed in some way.
00:05:42.903 --> 00:05:47.213
Let me encourage you with Revelation 21.5.
00:05:47.213 --> 00:05:50.649
Behold, I am making all things new.
00:05:50.649 --> 00:05:58.994
God's mercies are new every morning, just like we hear in Lamentations 3, verses 22 and 23.
00:05:58.994 --> 00:06:04.173
That means every day, not just January 1st.
00:06:04.173 --> 00:06:08.471
Every day is an opportunity to start fresh with God.
00:06:08.471 --> 00:06:14.132
Don't let the weight of yesterday hold you back from the joy and hope of today.
00:06:14.132 --> 00:06:20.172
Now take a moment to think about one area of your life where you need a fresh start.
00:06:20.172 --> 00:06:31.146
Pray and ask God to guide you as you step into that new beginning Section 3, Trusting God's Plan for the Year Ahead.
00:06:33.180 --> 00:06:36.447
Another verse I want to share is Jeremiah 29 11.
00:06:36.447 --> 00:06:40.245
For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord.
00:06:40.245 --> 00:06:45.785
Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
00:06:45.785 --> 00:06:51.107
This is a verse that we often hear at the start of the new year, and for good reason.
00:06:51.107 --> 00:06:54.543
It's a beautiful reminder of God's sovereignty.
00:06:55.514 --> 00:06:59.105
But trusting God's plan isn't always easy, is it?
00:06:59.105 --> 00:07:02.204
Especially when things don't go like we expect.
00:07:02.204 --> 00:07:14.997
The one thing that's helped me is keeping a journal of prayer requests and answered prayers and pretty much my thoughts on God, prayer requests and answered prayers and pretty much my thoughts on God.
00:07:14.997 --> 00:07:19.788
It's incredible to look back and see how God has been faithful, even when His timing or methods didn't match my expectations.
00:07:19.788 --> 00:07:41.168
Now, just as an example, there was a time and it's in my journal that I was praying specifically for something to come about in my life, something that dealt with my future, and when it didn't happen, I wasn't just disappointed, but I was destroyed, it seemed like.
00:07:41.168 --> 00:07:50.937
But just a few months later, god opened a different door that was so much better than anything I could have ever imagined.
00:07:52.197 --> 00:07:56.360
Trusting God means surrendering our plans and letting Him lead.
00:07:56.360 --> 00:08:00.444
It's not always comfortable, but it's always worth it.
00:08:00.444 --> 00:08:04.028
So here's some good practical tips for trusting God.
00:08:04.028 --> 00:08:08.172
One I said it keep a prayer journal.
00:08:08.172 --> 00:08:15.057
Write down your prayers and revisit them to see how God answers.
00:08:15.057 --> 00:08:16.240
Two embrace patience.
00:08:16.240 --> 00:08:18.062
Oh, I know about this.
00:08:18.062 --> 00:08:24.069
One God's timing is perfect, even when it doesn't align with ours.
00:08:24.069 --> 00:08:27.017
Just remember that.
00:08:27.017 --> 00:08:30.206
And three surround yourself with encouragers.
00:08:30.206 --> 00:08:35.547
Find friends or mentors who remind you to keep trusting in God.
00:08:35.547 --> 00:08:43.109
This week, ask yourself where in your life do you need to trust God more?
00:08:43.109 --> 00:08:46.243
Take that area to Him in prayer.
00:08:46.243 --> 00:08:48.379
You'll be surprised.
00:08:49.554 --> 00:08:53.787
Section 4, Building a Strong Foundation for the New Year.
00:08:55.398 --> 00:09:00.649
As we step into this new year, let's talk about building a strong foundation.
00:09:00.649 --> 00:09:03.844
That foundation starts with gratitude.
00:09:03.844 --> 00:09:11.543
Psalm 100, verse 4, says Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.
00:09:11.543 --> 00:09:16.139
Let's start each day by thanking God for at least one thing.
00:09:16.139 --> 00:09:23.496
It shifts your focus from what you're lacking to the abundance of his blessings.
00:09:23.496 --> 00:09:27.942
Next, let's talk about setting God-honoring goals.
00:09:27.942 --> 00:09:37.400
Instead of resolutions like I want to lose weight, think about goals like I want to honor God with how I take care of my body.
00:09:37.400 --> 00:09:41.075
It's about aligning our desires with His will.
00:09:41.075 --> 00:09:46.722
Finally, let's consider using Scripture-based affirmations.
00:09:46.722 --> 00:09:53.410
For example, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, psalm 139.14.
00:09:53.410 --> 00:09:59.807
Or I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me Philippians 4.13.
00:09:59.807 --> 00:10:04.666
These truths help anchor us when life feels uncertain.
00:10:04.666 --> 00:10:11.965
And on top of prayer and gratitude for that foundation, make sure you add obedience.
00:10:11.965 --> 00:10:18.100
Jesus says in John 14, 15, if you love me, you'll keep my commandments.
00:10:18.100 --> 00:10:23.517
Obedience isn't about perfection, but about a heart willing to follow God.
00:10:23.517 --> 00:10:27.081
Now think of this year as a building project.
00:10:27.081 --> 00:10:29.924
Your foundation is God's Word.
00:10:29.924 --> 00:10:39.845
What you build on that foundation your habits, choices and actions well, they'll determine how strong you stand when challenges come.
00:10:41.128 --> 00:10:45.905
This week, take a moment to reflect on what kind of foundation you're building.
00:10:45.905 --> 00:10:48.717
Ask God to help you strengthen it.
00:10:48.717 --> 00:10:57.650
Closing Thoughts as we wrap up, I want to challenge you to take some time this week to reflect on how you can put God first this year.
00:10:57.650 --> 00:11:06.369
Maybe it's committing to daily prayer, or finding a Bible reading plan, or serving in your community or in your church.
00:11:06.369 --> 00:11:13.668
Whatever it is, write it down and share it with someone who can encourage you along the way.
00:11:13.668 --> 00:11:16.118
Let's pray together.
00:11:16.118 --> 00:11:20.870
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of a new year.
00:11:20.870 --> 00:11:26.873
We ask that you guide our steps, renew our minds and transform our hearts.
00:11:26.873 --> 00:11:32.652
Help us to trust you in every situation and to glorify you in all that we do.
00:11:32.652 --> 00:11:37.250
Thank you for your mercies that were new every morning.
00:11:37.250 --> 00:11:46.684
We give this year to you and ask you for your blessing In Jesus' precious name, amen.
00:11:46.684 --> 00:11:50.014
Thank you so much for joining me today on renewed mindsets.
00:11:50.014 --> 00:11:57.873
Don't forget to subscribe and share this episode with a friend and start your year with God at the center.
00:11:57.873 --> 00:12:00.044
We'll be back.
00:12:00.044 --> 00:12:02.229
I'm so excited about this year.
00:12:02.229 --> 00:12:04.212
We'll be back next week.
00:12:04.212 --> 00:12:06.823
We'll probably have Lauren.
00:12:06.823 --> 00:12:13.206
I know some of y'all are excited about that because you're tired of listening to me by myself, but that's okay.
00:12:13.206 --> 00:12:17.280
Have a blessed new year and I'll see you next time.
00:12:22.130 --> 00:12:33.092
Have you ever seen the pictures online where they show where the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans meet and you see a visible line where the two bodies of water appear to clash but they don't fully mix.
00:12:33.092 --> 00:12:39.493
Well, that happens because the waters have different levels of salt and temperature and density.
00:12:39.493 --> 00:12:48.350
They create a gradient making it hard for the waters to blend and it results in a noticeable contrast on the surface.
00:12:48.350 --> 00:12:50.306
It happens all over the world.
00:12:50.306 --> 00:12:54.871
Cape Horn at the tip of South America is one spot that it does that.
00:12:54.871 --> 00:13:04.129
Well, when the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans meet, they keep those characteristics for a while.
00:13:05.559 --> 00:13:09.370
That's like showing us God's wisdom and purpose in nature.
00:13:09.370 --> 00:13:19.779
The differences in their saltiness and their temperature and their density create that line and it demonstrates the harmony and balance that God created.
00:13:19.779 --> 00:13:30.523
The harmony and balance that God created that separation affected by the strong currents, like the Antarctic circumpolar current.
00:13:30.523 --> 00:13:37.634
It highlights the detailed design in God's creation, or even the waters have specific places to be.
00:13:37.634 --> 00:13:46.474
Now, this meeting point symbolizes the boundary between two large ecosystems and each one flourishes under God's care.
00:13:46.474 --> 00:13:55.211
The different marine life in both the oceans, each suited to its environment, it shows the diversity and the creativity of God's work.
00:13:55.211 --> 00:14:04.861
And while that natural boundary poses challenges for sailors, it showcases the incredible power and majesty of God's creation.
00:14:04.861 --> 00:14:27.410
Now we think of this natural phenomenon, let's remember Romans 1, verse 20, that says For since the creation of the world, god's invisible qualities, his eternal power and His divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what's been made, so that people are without excuse.
00:14:27.410 --> 00:14:32.875
The visible line where these two oceans meet is not just a physical occurrence.
00:14:32.875 --> 00:14:48.250
It's a testament to the divine creator who designed the earth with purpose and precision, and he invites us to marvel at his greatness and seek him in the beauty of his creation.
00:14:48.250 --> 00:14:53.288
Well, that's all for this week's show.
00:14:53.288 --> 00:14:57.009
You know the name of this show speaks my hope for you.
00:14:57.009 --> 00:15:00.850
It's taken from the words of Romans, chapter 12, verse 2.
00:15:00.850 --> 00:15:15.159
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that, by testing, you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
00:15:17.647 --> 00:15:22.628
If you enjoyed what you heard, do me a favor, please, and tell someone you know about it.

00:15:26.201 --> 00:15:30.010
You may even need to download it to their phone and show them what a podcast is.
00:15:30.010 --> 00:15:34.029
If it was valuable to you, it will be to them.

I just might play it on a future episode.
00:15:56.304 --> 00:15:58.568
Until next week.
00:15:58.568 --> 00:16:00.953
I'm Rick.
00:16:00.953 --> 00:16:16.024
I love you, see ya.

00:16:40.452 --> 00:16:42.014
He ran away.
00:16:42.014 --> 00:16:48.187
You see, little Happy was anything but happy here and I didn't know a thing about it.
