Love like Jesus.
Love Like Jesus. Have you ever witnessed a love so selfless, it moved you to the core? My latest musings tackle the profound essence of Christian love, contrasting it with our modern-day culture's emphasis on self-interest. Through a series of Bible stories and personal reflections, I, Rick, delve into the radical love Jesus demonstrated—actions purely driven by compassion without seeking anything in return. From feeding the 5,000 to healing the sick, Jesus set a precedent for us all. But it's not just about grand gestures; it's about letting love infuse every action of our daily lives, as urged by 1 Corinthians 16:14, a scripture that has deeply resonated with me.
This episode brings you into the heart of what it means to practice such love in real-life scenarios. I'll share a touching story of a friend's mother whose commitment to her aging parent exemplifies selfless devotion. Her story is one of many that challenge us to look beyond our convenience to truly embody this Christ-like love. Together, let's embark on a journey to discover how we can better serve others with a compassionate heart and be a living testament to the scripture that commands us to let all that we do be done in love. So, tune in, and join me as we seek to transform our approach to love, one act of kindness at a time.

00:00:05.709 --> 00:00:20.431
I know some of y'all can't wait a week to hear from me, so I'm going to start preparing some little short things to just throw out during the week, just to give you something else to listen to, something else to contemplate, something else to study.
00:00:20.431 --> 00:00:25.522
Nothing big, nothing deep Should be fairly short.
00:00:25.522 --> 00:00:28.189
I hope you enjoy it.
00:00:28.189 --> 00:00:38.613
If you do, let me know Rick at RenewedMindsetscom or the contact page at RenewedMindsetscom slash contact.
00:00:38.613 --> 00:00:42.185
Either way, I'd love to hear from you.
00:00:42.185 --> 00:00:49.399
Enjoy, see ya.
00:00:51.789 --> 00:00:53.014
What exactly is Christian love?
00:00:53.014 --> 00:00:54.822
We hear about it a lot.
00:00:54.822 --> 00:00:58.805
We reside in a culture that's excessively self-centered.
00:00:58.805 --> 00:01:04.971
Everybody's striving to gain something from somebody else, climbing the corporate ladder.
00:01:04.971 --> 00:01:18.923
People only seem to be willing to reciprocate if it benefits them, and this way of life is not in line with the teachings of Jesus, who exemplified the opposite of that.
00:01:18.923 --> 00:01:25.453
Jesus displayed compassion toward every single person he encountered, regardless of the personal cost.
00:01:25.453 --> 00:01:38.129
If you read the Bible, you'll see lots of instances where Jesus well like he fed a hungry crowd of 5,000 out of compassion, he multiplied the food to sustain them.
00:01:38.129 --> 00:01:52.409
In another story, he was trying to get some solitude, but he ended up reaching out in compassion to heal people who were ill among a crowd of people that were pursuing him.
00:01:52.409 --> 00:01:56.662
Jesus always acted out of pure love, without any hidden agenda.
00:01:59.406 --> 00:02:05.016
In 1 Corinthians 16, 14, it says let all that you do be done in love.
00:02:05.016 --> 00:02:17.574
I've contemplated this verse for a long time, and although I consider myself pretty proficient in loving other people, I've always wondered how I could improve.
00:02:17.574 --> 00:02:22.091
Loving others comes effortlessly for me.
00:02:22.091 --> 00:02:28.050
I'm not patting myself on the back, I'm just one of those people that can show love.
00:02:28.050 --> 00:02:36.450
But when I reflect on it I realize that I kind of tend to do it when it's convenient for me.
00:02:39.002 --> 00:02:46.430
So on January 1st of this year, a close friend of mine experienced the loss of his 96-year-old grandmother.
00:02:46.430 --> 00:02:57.664
This woman had lived a long, beautiful life and through this event God made that first Corinthians verse come alive.
00:02:57.664 --> 00:03:05.185
For me, it's one thing to say that we should do everything with love, but it's another thing to actually practice it.
00:03:05.185 --> 00:03:12.861
You see, for the past six years my friend's mother devoted herself to caring for her own mother's needs.
00:03:12.861 --> 00:03:22.325
She made multiple trips every day to the nursing home to make sure that her mom was fed and warm and taken care of.
00:03:22.325 --> 00:03:29.826
She sacrificed her own happiness to ensure that her mother could live the remainder of her life in peace and comfort.
00:03:29.826 --> 00:03:32.507
This is love.
00:03:32.507 --> 00:03:38.893
It exemplifies the kind of love that considers the needs of others before your own.
00:03:38.893 --> 00:03:58.836
And on the night before the passing of my buddy's grandma, his mother, who was 72 years old at the time, chose to go sleep on the floor of the nursing home beside her mother so that her mom wouldn't be alone in the final moments of her life.
00:04:00.942 --> 00:04:16.574
Now that's just selfless, and that's a selfless display of love that has really impacted my life Because it brings that 1 Corinthians scripture 1 Corinthians 16, 14, that brings that to life.
00:04:16.574 --> 00:04:22.992
I'm challenged by that to set aside my own needs, my own desires.
00:04:22.992 --> 00:04:31.471
Set aside my own needs, my own desires and the convenience that I use in order to love people in the same manner that my friend's mom displayed.
00:04:31.471 --> 00:04:42.810
And I pray that, both in my life and in yours, as we continue to operate in the Spirit, that we can let every action be driven by love.
00:04:42.810 --> 00:04:46.879
We can let every action be driven by love.
00:04:46.879 --> 00:05:04.939
We have to praise God for giving us Jesus as an example of how to exhibit unconditional love in a selfless, christ-like manner, and I pray that God will place us in more situations where we can express this kind of love.
